Music Mondays – Ella Henderson

Ah yes, here we are; another Monday has come and gone.

Today I want to rave about the fabulous brit, Ella Henderson. Girl is absolutely killing it. At only 19 years old, Ella has created a (what I deem to be) classic record. If you don’t know who she is, Ella Henderson auditioned for X Factor UK and was unfortunately (or fortunately cause now she has a fabulous career) voted off the show in week 7. Simon Cowell, as brilliant as he is, picked her up on his personal record label shortly after.

Her debut album, Chapter One, is an album that has no words to describe it. It is literally too good for words. But since this is a review I have to find SOME words to describe it. Chapter One is raw, edgy, and soulful. Ella’s vocals are comparable to Adele; complete, raw power. These words do not do the album justice and the only way for you to know what I am talking about is to listen to the album.

Ella’s first single, Ghost, was released June 2014 in the UK, however it is just now being played on the radio in Canada (as what usually happens with artists from overseas). It’s an extremely catchy song and has a bit of an edge to it that makes it the perfect song to jam out to in your car. Check out the song and video below.

Her second single, Glow, was released October 2014. Check out the song and video for that below.

Her third single, Yours, was released November 2014. It is an extremely raw, passionate song and should be listened to with a box of tissues.

Her fourth single, Mirror Man, takes it back to her up-beat songs and was released March 2015.

I challenge you to find a song on the album that isn’t fantastic. Ella hits notes that you didn’t even think existed. And just in case you think her voice is in any way dependent on auto-tune, check out a live performance of “Ghost”.

THOSE “LOON CALLS” THOUGH.

Every song on the album has a message that everyone can relate to. Her song Beautifully Unfinished kills me from beginning to end. Empire is a beautiful song about love that makes me realize how lucky we are to build a life with someone else.

And now that you’re just as obsessed with her as I am, buy her album on iTunes!
